The Dark Heart Of Dunwich: this story is inspired by a tale from the 12th century of a young girl named Eva, who lived in the port town of Dunwich. At the time, Dunwich was one of the most influential ports in England and was so large in size that it rivalled London. Eva was to be married off to a rich land owner, but fell in love with a sailor. However the sailor had his way with her and left for sea, leaving her. Distraught, she fled down to the coast, sobbing, and tore her still beating heart from her chest. She flung it into the sea where her life essence mixed with the water, binding her eternally to the shore. Over time Eva and her story were forgotten, and erosion lead to the once impressive town of Dunwich falling almost entirely into the ocean, now a town of only around 200. However, it is said that on a dark stormy night, when wandering the shores of Dunwich, one can hear the tolling of the 13 ancient church bells that now lie under the waves and can see the figure of Eva wandering the coast – searching for her now rotten hear – that if ever washed up to shore, would curse whoever picked it up with a similarly gruesome end.
